Workshop Overview
Over the course of each session, children will take part in a carefully structured blend of physical activity, sportsmanship, and reflective practice that builds essential life skills and strong Islamic character.
Our Bespoke ONEder Programme Includes:
- Boxing Drills: Fun and age-appropriate boxing basics (no sparring), including stance, footwork, combinations, and pad work. These activities improve hand-eye coordination, core strength, and confidence while reinforcing self-control and discipline (adab).
- Flexibility & Strength Training: Stretching routines, bodyweight exercises, and partner challenges help increase mobility and functional strength. Children learn to take care of their physical well-being, a trust (amana) from Allah.
- Football-Focused Teamwork for the boys: We know our boys love football and so after much request, we have ensured that football is part of the deal at our ONEder sports workshop. Engaging football drills and small team games that build coordination, agility, and strategic thinking. These sessions encourage cooperation, communication, and fair play—key traits of akhlaq (good character).
- A Range of Sport Options for the girls: Netball, tennis, rounders and even badminton, our sports camp boasts a variety like no other, to give our girls a chance to try something new in a comfortable, girls-only environment.
- Mindfulness & Emotional Regulation: Breathing exercises, guided visualisations, and short moments of reflection are woven into every session. These teach children how to manage their emotions, stay focused, and find inner calm, linking back to concepts like sabr (patience) and tawakkul (reliance on Allah).
Key Skills Gained:
- Physical Confidence: Improved strength, balance, and fitness in a way that’s engaging and non-intimidating.
- Self-Discipline & Respect: Learning to follow instructions, stay calm under pressure, and treat others with kindness—mirroring the sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.
- Leadership & Team Spirit: Taking turns, supporting teammates, and showing humility in victory or defeat.
- Spiritual Awareness: Encouraged to reflect on intentions (niyyah), gratitude (shukr), and perseverance (istiqamah) in their efforts.
Each session is held in a nurturing, inclusive environment that welcomes children of all abilities and backgrounds. Our goal is not just to build athletes, but to nurture strong, mindful, and compassionate young Muslims who carry the values of their faith into every area of life.
Academy Coach: Mariam Datoo
Organization: Box & Flex with Mary
Born in Nairobi, Kenya, Mariam brings a wealth of experience, energy, and passion to every session she leads. She is a FA Level 2 certified football coach and a qualified Boxercise instructor, with a strong focus on promoting physical fitness and confidence—especially among women and girls. However, she is experienced working with both boys and girls and as such she will be leading our ONEder sports workshops this year.
From 2016 to 2018, she served as Head of Ladies Sports within her local community for the Stanmore Jafferys, and continues to lead as Head of Ladies and Girls Football, where she has played a key role in expanding opportunities for female athletes in the community. Her leadership also extended to the national stage as a Team Lead for volunteers at UEFA Women’s Euro 2022, reflecting her commitment to the development of women’s sports at all levels.
Known for her inclusive coaching style and emphasis on both skill and character, Mariam is passionate about creating safe, empowering spaces where girls and women can thrive, grow stronger, and build lifelong confidence through sport. We are really excited to have Mariam with us to provide a bespoke, God-Centric Programme which teaches sports through the lens of faith this year.
